Why Fairtrade?

Choc-affair has always used Fairtrade chocolate. We believe that every-one in our world is entitled to be paid a fair wage for their labours.

We carry the International logo beause:

It shows our commitment to the fair trade movement.
It's a guarantee that our products are licenced and approved by a recognized organization, so YOU the consumer know what you are buying.

Although it's been around for several years now, we'd never really paid the logo itself much attention before, have you? Take a good look at it, and tell us what you see? We think it looks a bit like the Pac-man creature you got on the old computer games! Others have mentioned a crazy moon maybe!

It was the Fairtrade Foundation website that educated us:
The silhouette of a cheering person represents the people, both consumers and producers, behind Fairtrade. It gives a positive forward looking image to Fairtrade and underlines the licensees' emphasis on quality.

So there you have it, how did we ever see a computer figure or a moon? Now we know, we'll never see anything but the cheering person. Will we?

Lastly, when we look at the enormity of the injustice in our world, many of us go around thinking that there is a lot wrong with the world, but what can we do?… and anyway, we are individuals, nothing we do will make a difference.

How wrong we can be. You see, you and I can make a difference, to so many people by just a few small changes. You don't have to scale a mountain, or ride across the deserts, although well done if you can! All you and I have to do to make a difference to so many is to buy fair trade goods whenever possible.

How easy. If your local stores don't stock any, ask/pester until they do! Contact Us, and ask us to send them some of our scrumptious chocolate and we'll get them stocking Fairtrade.
