3 children in fancy dress trick or treating

Halloween is right around the corner, and as the leaves crunch beneath our feet, the anticipation for that sweet-filled evening grows. But this year, why not take a different approach? Instead of relying on store-bought treats, dive into the world of homemade candies that are not only delicious but also better for the environment.

These trio of chocolate confections are a breeze to whip up and promise to be a hit with the trick-or-treat crowd. And for those planning to dim the lights and indulge in solitude – these treats are just as delightful in secret. We’re onto you, and we approve! 😉

Chocolate Spider Web Truffles

Ingredients:

For the truffles

  • 70g raw unsalted cashews – Soak for at least 4 hours to make them easier to blend
  • 118ml water
  • 80g of our Classic Dark Chocolate
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil, melted in the microwave or on the hob
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

For the chocolate coating

Instructions:

  1. Combine cashews and water in a blender, processing until you achieve a creamy texture.
  2. Melt the chocolate either in the microwave or over a stove.
  3. Stir in the melted coconut oil, maple syrup, and the cashew blend until the mixture is well combined.
  4. Let the mixture cool in the refrigerator, ensuring it solidifies (this usually takes around 4 hours).
  5. Once set, roll the mixture into ball-shaped truffles.
  6. Arrange these balls on a tray lined with baking paper and pop them into the freezer for half an hour; this firms them up for the next step.
  7. Melt both dark and white chocolate in separate bowls. Pour the melted white chocolate into a piping tool with a fine nozzle, or alternatively, a plastic bag with a tiny corner snipped off.
  8. Using a fork, dip the truffles into the dark chocolate then immediately pipe on white chocolate. You can pipe it in circles starting from the top moving down, or in a general zig zag pattern.
  9. If you want to get super creative, use a cocktail stick to move the white chocolate downwards to create an even spookier effect.
  10. For the chocolate shavings, just grate one of our delicious chocolate bars on a fine cheese grater over the top of the truffles.

  4. Repeat until all the mixture is gone.
  5. Refrigerate for 30 minutes until the clusters are solid and ready to serve.
  6. BONUS: Add some melted white chocolate eyes to give them a spooky effect.

Making Halloween treats at home doesn’t just taste better; it’s also a more environmentally friendly option. Less packaging means less waste. Plus, it’s a delightful way to add a personal touch to your treats. Not to mention, the process of creating these goodies can be a fun activity for the whole family.

So this Halloween, let’s bring back the art of homemade candies. Because nothing says “treat” quite like a handcrafted chocolate delight made with love. Happy Halloween and happy crafting!
