SASH Charity Chocolate Bar

We are thrilled to present an extraordinary collaboration that goes beyond mere confectionery — our partnership with Safe and Sound Homes (SASH) provided a paid internship through our design partner Art is my Career. Eden, the talented artist behind this spectacular design has received support from SASH for just under 18 months. From initial concept, through to design, Eden has produced a design that showcases what York has to offer, while honouring the SASH brand.

SASH is a youth homelessness charity that works across North and East Yorkshire.

They help young people aged 16-25 who are facing homelessness. The accommodation they offer is through their Nightstop and Supported Lodgings services, which rely on volunteer ‘hosts’ who offer a spare room in their own home. Their services are as much about supporting young people to resolve the problems which have led to them becoming homeless as they are about putting a roof over their head.

Those they support are referred to SASH by Local Authorities and other partner agencies.

Eden’s Story

I went into SASH because both my Mum and Dad sadly passed away and our family home was sold as part of probate.

I loved my room at my hosts Helen’s house. It was so cosy, and the bed was so comfy. I like my own space, and I never really had that until I moved into SASH, so I really enjoyed having my own room at Helen’s.

Because of SASH I’ve now got my own place, and I learnt to manage my money. Before SASH I was running the home when I was caring for family, so I knew I could do it.

I enjoy crocheting and I have crocheted all sorts of things. I also like gaming and would love to do streaming on YouTube as long as I am not overheard! My dream is to finish my Level 3 Creative Media course and hopefully one day go to University in Liverpool to study Gaming Design.

Internship with AIMC

Eden took part in a paid internship with Laura Sanderson at Art is my Career (AIMC) which ran over several weeks. The internship centred around creating the design for a chocolate bar that would be sold with a percentage of each sold going to SASH. Eden took inspiration from York, creating a series of hand drawn illustrations which they then lino cut each one and then scanned them in to build the wrapper design digitally.

The SASH charity chocolate bar is available to purchase directly from Choc Affair a percentage from each bar sold goes directly to helping young people in SASH.
