10 Things You Didn’t Know About Oranges

10 Things You Didn't Know About Oranges

Orange and chocolate have always been a winning combination in the chocolate world, and we certainly cater to that classic flavour with our Orange Milk Chocolate Bar. However, we also have a twist on this all time favourite with our Orange & Geranium Milk Chocolate Bar, which is our #FlavourFocus for July! So we have decided to look a little more into oranges, as it’s a prominent flavour in this chocolate bar…

  1. Full of Fibre…

Did you know that you would actually have to consume 7 whole cups of cornflakes to get the same amount of fibre that you would get from one medium orange?

  1. Favourite Flavour…

Orange is the world’s favourite flavour after chocolate and vanilla… no wonder orange flavoured chocolate is a thing!

  1. A great source of Vitamin C!

Did you know that just one orange is enough to supply you with all the vitamin C you need for a whole day? That’s just amazing!

  1. A symbol of love…

Yes – it’s not just roses that can symbolise love – oranges can too! Orange and orange blossom is a symbol of love  – so we know what we are getting for valentines day next year!

  1. Golden Apples…

Oranges have been known as ‘fruits of the Gods’, and it has been said that Hercules referred to them as ‘Golden Apples’.

  1. A whole lot of orange…

There are now over 600 varieties of oranges across the globe – that’s a lot! We never really thought of a ‘type’ of orange – we just saw an orange as an orange… so we might be looking a little more closely from now on!

  1. Goodbye slugs!

Don’t take us for our word – but it has been said that if you sprinkle a little orange peel over your plants, it acts as a great natural slug repellent! That’s definitely one for our budding gardeners to try out…

  1. Oh so juicy…

Around 85% of oranges produced are used to make orange juice – so perhaps we prefer to drink this wonderful flavour rather than eat it.

  1. It is possible to write a poem with the word ‘orange’!

Many say that rhyming with orange is totally impossible; but in fact, there is a mountain in Wales called Blorenge, and spores are made in a sac known as a sporange – so put that in your song and sing it!

  1. 10 parts to the puzzle…

There are typically 10 segments in an orange – so you can enjoy that beautiful flavour 10 times over!

If you are now feeling in the mood for orange, we suggest you try our Orange & Geranium Milk Chocolate – it’s a winner!
